STREET HISTORY
There are approximately 125 named streets in East Norwalk. Perhaps the easiest to know
why they are so named are: Burr, Cemetery, East Avenue, Gregory, Ludlow, Marvin,
Norden, and Seaside.
But, what about: Betts, Canfield, Decker, Fenwick, Fort Point, Norman, Selleck and the
more than 100 others - including “the street where you live?”
Send your research or thoughts as to why your street is named as it is to the East
Norwalk Association Library (51 Van Zant Street, 06855)
>
Who or what was it named for? When was it named? How was it documented?
We’ll put your research into a book: “The Streets of East Norwalk” giving you credit for
the information.
With your permission we’ll add a picture of your house or business and your street sign.
By the way, “we” know that originally Van Zant Street was Van Zandt Street - but we don’t
yet know who or why or when it was so named or changed. Can you help? If you have
any ideas, please let the Library know.
